SSC CGL Tier 1 2026 — Pattern and Marking Scheme
Tier 1 is a Computer Based Test (CBT) of 100 multiple-choice questions carrying 200 marks, to be completed in 60 minutes. PwBD candidates with a scribe are allowed 80 minutes. The exam has four sections with 25 questions each, all worth 2 marks:
- General Intelligence & Reasoning: Analogies, similarities and differences, spatial visualisation, problem solving, analysis, arithmetic reasoning, verbal and figure classification, number series, coding and decoding, non-verbal series, and statement-conclusion questions.
- General Awareness: Current events, history, culture, geography, general policy and scientific developments relating to India and neighbouring countries. Typically covers the preceding 12 months of news.

SSC CGL Tier 2 2026 — Pattern and Marking Scheme
Tier 2 is conducted across two timed sessions in a single day. It has three papers. Paper I is compulsory for all candidates regardless of post preference. Paper II applies only to Junior Statistical Officer (JSO) applicants. Paper III applies only to those applying for Assistant Audit Officer (AAO) or Assistant Accounts Officer posts.
Paper I — Compulsory for All Posts
Session 1 covers two modules: Mathematical Abilities (30 questions, 90 marks) and Reasoning and General Intelligence (30 questions, 90 marks). Duration: 1 hour. Negative marking: 1 mark per wrong answer.

Mathematical Abilities at Tier 2 level covers all Tier 1 Quantitative Aptitude topics plus advanced algebra, coordinate geometry, higher-level mensuration, and data interpretation with more complex chart types. Reasoning at Tier 2 is more analytical than Tier 1 — expect puzzles, seating arrangements, data sufficiency, and critical reasoning alongside the familiar analogy and series questions.

What Changed in SSC CGL 2026
The 2026 pattern continues the structure introduced in 2023–24. The key changes from the older (pre-2023) pattern are: the Tier 3 descriptive paper has been permanently removed; computer knowledge and general awareness are now tested within Tier 2 Paper I rather than as a separate tier; Document Verification, DEST (Data Entry Speed Test), and typing tests are now scheduled within the same exam cycle rather than as a separate Tier 4.
